Native to central and eastern U.S. and Canada, great lobelia can be found thriving in wooded, riverside, stream, spring, or boggy areas. Its resiliency allows it to grow in disturbed soils. It is recognized by its towering spikes, loaded with pale violet florets that bloom late in the season. Can be used as a gargle to treat coughs. Locate in full sun in cooler climates, part shade in warmer climates. Sow into rich, moist soil. Ht 2-3ft.
