Sweet ambrosial scent is legendary and more than makes up for the unimpressive yellowish flowers. As the story goes, Napoleon brought seeds back from Egypt for his wife Josephine and she so loved the plant that she called it "mignonette" or "little darling." It later became a favourite in Victorian England especially in the cities where it helped to cover the stench of the air. Used for perfume, sachets and potpourris. Best sown outdoors in spring.
