Native to eastern United States, these are one of the most adored wildflowers. Tall stems bloom with radiant golden-yellow sunflowers and distinct black centers. Blossoms appear June through September, attracting butterflies and other pollinators. Used as a medicinal herb by Native Americans as a treatment for parasites and colds. There is evidence that at least several species of Rudbeckia have immunostimulatory activity similar to echinacea. Rudbeckia works well planted into a mid or rear garden bed filler. Sow into moist, moderately rich, well-draining soil after last frost. Situate in full sun, and divide roots every 3 years. Ht 2-3ft (60-90cm).
