A lovely low growing biennial that is native to North Africa and Europe and has now naturalized in parts of North America. Produces clusters of pink flowers. As a bitter and hepatic herb, the dried areal parts are used for lack of appetite, sluggish digestion and a weak liver. Useful during convalescence. Usually taken as a tea or tincture. Plant in partial shade and light, sandy, well-drained soil. Does not thrive in rich, wet soil. Germination takes 9 weeks. Height 6-12 inches.
