Comfrey is one of the most important medicinal herbs for injuries. It contains allantoin, a hormone-like substance that stimulates cell division, making it valuable for healing wounds, ulcers and broken bones. Traditionally used as a tea or poultice. Due to pyrrolizidine alkaloids there is concern for hepatic toxicity and should therefore be only applied externally. Produces purple, rose or white bell shaped flowers. Plant in full sun-part shade in average to moist soil. Height 24-42 inches.
