Makes pretty border perennial with pale blue flowers on thin delicate stems that are surprisingly a lot stronger than they appear, once used to make linen and rope in Europe! As with ordinary flax, seeds contain linseed oil, used for its nutritional source of fatty acids as well as a golden to amber finishing product for wood. Pleasant tasting and nutritious seeds were once cooked and eaten by the Natives of California and are a great addition to salads, smoothies and cooking, adding a nutty earthy flavour and a rich source of omega 3s. Has been used medicinally for rheumatic pains, diarrhea and coughs. Grows easily in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Heat, humidity and drought tolerant. Height 1-2 feet.
