(Red root) A low growing, and mound forming deciduous shrub with clusters of small white flowers. Has a strong association with American history as it was used as a tea substitute for imported tea during the American Revolution. Indians made a wash for skin problems including skin cancer and venereal sores. A good gargle for mouth and throat sores. Thrives in dry soil and full sun. Drought tolerant as it produces long red roots that help it withstand dry conditions. Makes a great hedge plant. Height 1-2 feet.
