A small palm tree native to the southeastern United States, mainly Florida reaching about 6 feet in height and living up to 700 years old! Traditional food source, as an an aphrodisiac as well as a remedy to treat conditions of the male urinary tract, used for centuries especially in Asian and Native American cultures. The berry is known to be a diuretic, urinary antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and endocrine agent that reduces symptoms involved with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It does this by blocking an enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT, a compound thought to be a key player in the increased replication rate of prostate cells. Typically administered as a tincture, tea, powder or infusion.
