Erfurter Marshmallow

This tall and robust plant produces soft pink flowers is known to attract painted lady butterflies as well as other pollinators. The erfurter cultivar is a german variety particularly rich in medicinal mucilage, containing up to 10% of the thick, sticky, membrane-coating substance. This makes it an ideal demulcient for the treatment of colitis, Crohns, ulcers, as well as topical conditions. A leaf and flower infusion can be used for respiratory conditions lowering inflammation and aiding as an expectorant. Plant in moist soil. Root harvesting should occur after 2-3 years.
