(She chuang) Chinese herb in the carrot family, primarily known for its ability to treat male impotency as an aphrodisiac. Its high osthole content, a natural coumarin, found in its fruits and seeds have been found to have a wide range of pharmacological actions, including strengthening the immune system, as well as an antioxidant, anticancer, neuroprotective, osteogenic and anti-inflammatory compound. Commonly used for skin conditions as an antibacterial, found in Chinese lotions and creams. Used as as a gentle application against vaginal infections. Produces umbels of white flower clusters from April to July. Tolerant to a variety of soil conditions but prefers it to be moist. Height 10-80cm.
