Bai zhi root is very familiar in traditional Chinese medicine; used to expel wind, relieve pain, open respiration channels, and reduce swelling. It is found in treatments against headache, dizziness, toothaches, congestion, rheumatism and wounds. It has demonstrated vasodilatory effects, making it of interest as a hypotensive. Sow seeds in the fall and overwinter in a cold frame and relocate in spring. Plant in deep fertile loam, where it will not be over watered. Thrives in cold and shade. Ht 40-80in (120-240cm).
