(Adefetue)
Collected in Ghana where it is known as adefetue among the Ewes. Similar to East Indian basil (#1282), but scent and flavour is closer to thyme. Used throughout Africa for fevers including malaria. Popular general tonic and remedy for diarrhea, and used to repel insects. Leaf oil is highly antiseptic due to thymol content which explains its use as a gargle, dressing for wounds and treatment for conjunctivitis.
