Uses: Medicinal/Poisonous! Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 6-9)
When to Sow: Spring/Late Summer/Early Fall Ease of Germination: Moderate
Source of atropine, valuable in treating eye diseases and spasms. Externa applications lessen local inflammation and pain. Do not use without medical supervision. Germination is difficult; usually slow and sporatic. Stratification at 5C/40F for 4-12 weeks or gibberrelic acid pre-treatment is reported to speed germination.
