(Honeyball; Honey bells) Native to wet areas of eastern North America, buttonbush produces unique fragrant pincushion shaped blossoms that attract pollinators. Nations people of America used the bark for sore eyes, dysentery, toothache, headache, and as a tonic. The bark was also chewed to relieve toothaches. Controversially, the bark contains cephalanthin, a compound that is both a poison and a source of its healing powers. Height 5-12 feet.
