Indonesian Cinnamon
Cinnamomum burmannii
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic
(Malaysian cinnamon) Sourced from Indonesian cassia, Batavia cassia or the Padang cassia, this is very similar to the best Ceylon cinnamon, the spicy culinary ingredient we are all familiar with for baking and sweets. It is also known for its powerful medicinal benefits. The powdered bark has been used for coughs, chest complaints, malaria, diahhrea and nausea. Oils have antibacterial, carminative and antifungal properties. It is mostly used in herbal medicine as an antidiabetic remedy as it has been shown to enhance protein messengers involved in insulin signalling, glucose transport and anti-inflammatory action.
