(Meadow sage) Tall wispy stems that produce spikes of radiant deep blue-purple blossoms that bloom from early summer to autumn and attract pollinators all the while! Native to meadows of Africa, Europe and Asia and has naturalized in many areas of Canada and the U.S. Its name, "clary" is a derivative of “clear eye” as a paste made from its seeds were once used to reduce irritation and redness of the eye as well as remove particles. Although the medicinal properties are not as potent as that of other sage varieties, it has been used for sore throats and to clean teeth. Has a bitter, pungent flavour that has been used in beer and wine. Germination takes 2 weeks. Thrives in well drained chalky, loamy, and sandy soil in full sun. Ht 3 ft.
