The tea made from the flowers is a traditional Portuguese remedy for high blood sugar and Type 2 diabetes. Research has shown that the tea reduces insulin resistance and helps to normalize blood sugar. The herb is also a source of bright yellow and red dyes. Its cheery flowers add a delightful splash of yellow to the garden. Dried florets can be kept in storage as they can reliably produce dye long after their harvest. Store in a paper bag or shoe box. Grows well in ordinary, well-drained soil in full sun. Ht 20in (50cm).
