Source of important resin. Has protective, soothing effect on inflamed mucous membranes. Used in lozenges for sore throat and cough, and for diarrhea and dysentery. In the food industry it is used as a stabilizer, emulsifier and flavour fixative, and it is common in chewing gum and candy. Tropical shrub or small tree with pale yellow fragrant flowers. Suited for indoor pot culture.
