Majestic blue flowers adorn an assemblage of leaflets that resemble the biblical ladder ascending to heaven that appeared in Jacobs dream. This woodland perennial thrives in shade and rich soil. Leaflets are assembled in ladder form. Nicolas Culpeper, a 17th century English apothecary and physician described it as a remedy for “malignant fevers, pestilential distempers, nervous complaints, headaches, trembling, palpitations of the heart, hysteric cases and epilepsies.” Height 1-2 feet.
