In Chinese medicine this species is considered equivalent to Ephedra sinica and is used for the same purposes. Has higher total saponins, including the various forms of ephedrine. It is taller and woodier than E. sinica. Native of dry, rocky regions of Central Asia, Tibet, China and Mongolia. Requires full sun and well drained, sandy loam. Ht. 1m/3ft.
