Pau d’arco is a huge canopy tree native to the Amazon rainforest and common in tropical South and Latin America. Its use by local tribes may actually pre-date the Incas. Its wood has been used for centuries to make hunting bows. Used medicinally as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and laxative. It contains a potent chemical called lapachol which has proved to be effective in treatments for cancer.
