A herb with a simple erect stem from 6 to 18 inches. The showy star-shaped, bright scarlet and yellow flowers are produced from May to July on a spiked stems. Attracts hummingbirds. Aboriginal tribes and early physicians used a root tea to expel intestinal parasites (worms). Caution: Overdoses can cause increased heart rate, dizziness, convulsions and death.
