So tasty are the roots that there is a Grimm tale about the unfortunate child Rapunzel (German for ‘rampion’) who was given up to a witch after her father was caught stealing roots from the witch’s garden. First year roots and tender basal leaves are edible. Blue bell-flowers in June or July.
