Medicinal sage widespread throughout Asia, from Iran and India to China, Japan and Malaysia. It grows along streams and on hillsides, from sea level up to 2800m (9000ft). It is diuretic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Traditionally used in China to treat urinary tract infections, gonorrhea and menorrhagia (heavy menstruation). Like chia, the seeds produce a mucilage in water and this mucilage is revered in India and Pakistan for its ability to boost sexual "powers." Small flowers range in colour from reddish-purple to blue. Ht. 15-90cm/6-36".
