Asparagus racemosus
|
|
A species of asparagus, native to India and the Himalayas. The dried roots are valued as a traditional treatment for neurodegenerative disorders, an anti-diarrheal, anti-ulcer, and as a general health tonic. However, its use as a tonic to increase lactation has not been borne out by preliminary studies. Shatavari is also considered an effective aphrodisiac for both sexes. Pleasant-tasting root can be used to make a tea, tinctured, or powdered and taken in capsule form.
