Root is used as a liver, gall bladder and kidney tonic, and an ingredient in Swedish Bitters. Extracts used to treat herpes and skin rashes. Large stemless flower with creamy-yellow centre and silver bracts is excellent for dried arrangements. Not invasive like other thistles; a protected wildflower in Germany.
