Silver King Wormwood
Artemisia ludoviciana 'Silver King'
Uses: Medicinal/Aromatic Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 5-9)
Although ghostly white flowers are insignificant, Silver King is highly appealing for its attractive fragrant silver foliage. This robust cultivar of the wild prairie wormwood is an eye catching accent plant in the perennial garden and one of the best suited of the artemisias for landscaping. Spreading clump forming growth habit makes it appropriate for mass planting, as a groundcover and for woodland gardens. Great for dried arrangements. Used by Amerindians for diarrhea; also for headaches, stomachache, menstrual problems. A sacred herb used as white sage for ceremonial smudging. Plant in full sun in well drained alkaline soil as roots are prone to getting root rot if conditions are too wet. Drought tolerant. Height 30-120 cm.
