Sweet Siberian Watermelon
Citrullus lanatus 'Sweet Siberian'
Duration: Annual
When to Sow: Spring Ease of Germination: Easy
Peter Henderson, the American seedsman who introduced this watermelon in 1898, raved that it is "as sweet as any variety in cultivation". The dark green oblong fruits are medium-sized, up to 4.5 kg (10 lbs). The apricot-orange flesh is juicy and, of course, very sweet. As one might expect from its Siberian origin, it produces well in northern areas where seasons are short. 80-85 days.
