This unique "cucumber melon" is from the area around the historic city of Lecce, in southern Italy. The fruits are mottled dark and light green and are a preferred salad vegetable during the summer months. The fruits are harvested while young and sliced like cucumbers and added to salads and other favourite summer dishes.
