Most Italians in northern Italy are not familiar with the Carosello melons of the south. Also known as "cucumber melons", they appear to be related to the Metki melons of the Middle East. Carosello melons are used like cucumbers in salads and raw vegetable dishes. This variety from Fasano is round and bulkier than other varieties but has the same "perfumed" tasty green flesh.
