Horse, Laminatis and Founder II

I would like to know your opinion on some of the products now on the market that claim to reverse laminatis. Since the labels on these products only refer to a "propritery blend" and do not list ingredients, are they worth their expense? They claim to reattach the lamina to the hoof wall and literally cure founder and laminatis. Have you had any experience with any of these products, and do they live up to their claims? Any information that you may have on these products would be greatly appreciated. If they live up to their claims they may be worth trying.

Unfortunately I have not had any experience with these products, so it is difficult for me to give you an opinion. However, as I mentioned in my previous response, most often laminitis is due to an overconsumption of rich grass, a severe blow to the hoof, hormonal imbalance, reaction to some pharmaceuticals, infection, long walks on concrete, shock or stress, etc. Many of the causes listed are easily avoidable and would be one’s first line of prevention. I also did some research on the products you mentioned (which cannot be named in this posting). There was no information on the first as you state above, but there is data on the second via the internet. It looks to be a multi-vitamin/mineral blend with a few anti-inflammatory herbs as well as some glucosamine (does not mention which form) and MSM. From this list, I would say it was blended to help with laminitis once it has occurred rather than work as a preventative, but that is only my opinion. Personally, I would start with dietary and environmental choices to ensure health proactively. All parts of the body are only as strong as the nutrition with which they are provided.
