I have a 14 yr old male Yorkie diagnosed with kidney disease. He was given two new medicines on Oct. 25, 2006. He seems worse now being on this new medicine so I am wondering if herbal medicine would be better than the medicine from the vet.

I am in absolutely no position to answer this question as I do not know anything about your dog’s case, have no access to his records or bloodwork and no idea of what your veterinarian’s course of treatment has been thus far. There are many forms of kidney disease; I would suggest you would be best to have your dog seen by a qualified practitioner who has experience with both animals and herbs. Such a person may be found through the member’s list of the Veterinary Botanical Medicine Association (www.vbma.org). A return to health is never as simple as one type of medicine being better than another. Kidney disease requires a multi-faceted approach that requires alot of information and lengthy, ongoing care in conjunction with your veterinarian.
