I have a friend who has a 6 pound dog with an enlarged heart. He is 6 years old and just put on medication today, is there an herb that could help him?

There are so many reasons a dog could develop an enlarged heart, all the way from congenital causes (born with a defect; this may run in his family) to an autoimmune reaction to concurrent lung problems and everything in between. Treatment would depend on the actual cause of the condition. This is a case where your friend would be best served by seeing a qualified practitioner who has experience with animals and herbs. This person would need to look through all the reports and tests conducted by the veterinarian, perform an examination and monitor the dog’s progress on an ongoing basis. Such a practitioner may be found through the Veterinary Botanical Medicine Association (www.vbma.org). Good luck!
