Subject: Great Success with Mandrake Seeds (Denver, CO)
Received: Thu, 11 Feb 1999

I just got a computer and went on line. I am very happy to see that you now have an on-line catalog. I have wanted to write you for quite sometime. In 1995 I ordered some European Mandrake seeds from you. I had about an 80% germination rate. I waited until the plants were a few inches high before transplanting them. Because I lived in Idaho and was not sure if they would survive the winter I transplanted several into large pots that could be moved indoors in the winter. The ones that I put outside did not make it through the winter. The ones that I put in pots did pretty good and now I have at least 3 remaining. One however is doing great. It just bloomed. I tried cross pollinating the flowers, but because it was the only one that was blooming (the others are still medium size) it does not look like any of the flowers are going to produce fruit. The plant has its own cycle of growth and dormancy. It is now 20" in diameter with leaves 12" long. If you would like I will send you some pictures of it. I just wanted to share this with you. I have scanned one of the flowers that I pressed. I will send it in this e-mail.

I think your company is really great and have told several friends about it over the years. Keep up the good work. I now live in Denver and at present do not have garden space. I hope that will change soon. I am going to place an order with you on line very soon.

Well, take care and keep up the good work!

Thank you for answering my letter telling you about my success with Mandrake. I am enclosing a picture of my plant. It is actually two plants that I grew from the seeds that I bought from you. It is planted in a 5 gal. pot and I move it out doors in the summer and keep it inside in the winter. You are welcome to use this photo if you like.

I just took this photo today (Feb. 25, 1999) It appears that it has finished blooming. It has been blooming for almost 2 months. I wish that I would have had 2 plants that were blooming at the same time so that I could have cross- pollinated them. Maybe next year.

Thank you from providing such a great catalogue.
