I have a Fo-Ti plant. What is it? How to care for it?

Fo-ti is Chinese tonic herb with legendary rejuvenating properties. The roots are used in dried or fresh form to enhance virility, longevity, restore blood, liver and kidneys, for various ailments.

Fo-ti is a hardy climber that grows in either full sun or partial shade. It is a vigourous grower that is not difficult to handle. It likes plenty of moisture and occasional feedings. You can let it climb up a trellis or you just let it crawl over the ground. It is not particularly ornamental, but it can be an effective green cover plant.

For more information about growing and using this plant, consult Steven Foster’s book, "Herbal Emissaries" (available from Richters).
