Coffee Seed Germination and Culture Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Chris Bloom Posted on: May 5, 1999
I have a question regarding the propagation requirements for Coffea arabica. I received several fresh seeds and I was hoping someone might be kind enough to send me the requirements for germination. Do they require a cold period and if so, how long? Does it have a preference in soil media?
Coffee seeds do not need a cold period to germinate. As soon as you receive them they should be soaked in water for 24 to 48 hours and then sown in a rich, moist, well-draining medium. Keep the seed flat at 30 degrees Celsius and provide bottom heat.
