Hollyhocks Blooming Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Stacey Held Posted on: January 16, 2000
When I buy hollyhocks as plants from this nursery, will they bloom first year, or will I have to wait until next year?
Usually, the hollyhock plants we sell through mailorder are first year plants ( second year plants bolt to flower too early to be of a shippable size) and will not flower until the second year. However, there are always some plants that flower the first year anyway and you may be lucky to get such an exception to the rule. It is more likely to happen to plants started early and of course that is what we ship.
