Olive Trees in Florida Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Jean Davidoff Posted on: November 18, 2001
I am looking for some information on olive trees. Is there a type of olive which will grow in North Florida, USA?
Olives grow in Greece and Italy, but I have never heard of one that will survive freezing. However, since olives are bushes, you might try growing them against the house and covering them with mulch and plastic for the winter and attaching the plastic to the house to get any heat escaping from the house walls.
Also, get in touch with your agricultural department for advice on the frost hardiest clones available in the trade.
