I am interested in herbs or crop plants that would produce an attractive flower or seed pod for drying for floral arrangements/wreaths/swags etc. I am not familiar with thing like grain plants that would be suitable for this use other than wheats, broom corn, and some grasses. What other grains would be a good choice. I don’t know what other farm crop grains look like when they grow so that I might choose. Do you have pictures in a crop catalogue? or on the internet?

Besides the everlastings that we offer which are ideal for growing and drying for arrangements, wreaths, etc., herbs can be used. Some good examples are the beautiful rust coloured seed heads of dock, the tall woolly flower spikes of mullein, the leathery green leaves of bay, the brown cones of echinacea, and seed heads of green amaranth.

There are some images of the herbs we sell in the online catalogue section of the website (http://www.richters.com).

A good book is Cathy Miller’s "Harvesting, Preserving & Arranging Dried Flowers" (available from Richters).
