Trying to find out how, to cut a purple basil plant. Do I cut the top off? Then do I put the cutting in water to root, or plant it right back in the pot?

You can do both methods, but both methods will have a high rate of rotting and thus failed new plant attempt. Better prepare a clean pot with sterilized potting medium, cut off the top of the basil, let it sit for an hour or two to have the end dry out a bit, then put it into the sterile soil, water, drain and cover with a clean plastic bag. put in a bright spot out of direct sunlight and open the bag once a day to let a bit of fresh air in. If you water the pot with willow tree water or dip the cutting end into rooting hormone, the rooting will take place faster. Check our web-site at www.richters.com under Q&A for more tips and how to make willow water, by using the search engine with various key words such as "rooting ", "cutting" etc.
