Problem Growing Lavender: Leaves Turn Yellow in Winter

I’ve been growing French lavenders in containers in the greenhouse. The colour of their leaves usually changes to light yellow during the winter season and their shape doesn’t look good. After that, some of them would recuperate from their poor colour. They may also bloom. I have a hot water pipe heating system, so try to adjust a proper growing temperature for them in the winter.

Can you tell me the reason for the changing colour of the lavender, please?

Lavenders are high light plants and it is very difficult to give them sufficient light to have them grow properly. The pale green colour and the probably straggly growth are all signals that there is not enough light. You would do much better to rest the plants in winter. Keep them just moist, not wet and lower the temperature to about 5 degrees Celsius. This is how we get our plants through the winter. When the sun gets stronger in late February and March, the plants will be much stronger when they start to grow again.
