When is the best time of the year to plant herbs such as parsley, rosemary, sage, basil, and others?

When talking about planting plants and seeds of herbs in a temperate climate, the best time will vary with the herb’s requirement, and whether you plan to grow the plants indoors or out, but in general spring is the best time. Plants will then have a whole season to grow good roots to help them through the winter.

If you live in a tropical climate, plant in the beginning of the coolest season, so that the roots can grow enough to get enough water when it gets hot.

For seeds our packets give you the best season to plant them. Some seeds need particular temperatures to germinate properly (e.g. rosemary germinates best at 65 degrees Fahrenheit or 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, while basil needs it much hotter).

For more information check our web-site at www.richters.com and check the "Commercial" section under "Pro-Growers Info". The herbs you mention are all covered in that section. Also in the "News & Info" section the "Q&A" part allows you to search for the questions answered about the particular herb and the "Magazine Rack" covers many general topics such as seed sowing.
