I am looking at medicinal herbs to grow. I have picked out many and I am now trying to decide what will survive here. I know many of the plants are native to other countries. I plan to start the herbs in a window garden and may or may not move them outside. Can you please tell me, will the seeds displayed in the US catalog all grow here? How do I know what will survive and what to not bother with?

Go to Richters web-page at www.richters.com click on "Richters InfoCentre" under "News & Info" , then click on "Plant Hardiness Zone Maps" and find your location on the zone map of North America. The colour will tell which zone you are in. In our catalogue, opposite the latin name of the plant we list the range of zones that the plant will survive in out of doors (for example Z4-8, means the plant will usually survive out of doors in zones 4,5,6,7,and 8). In the same section you could also click on "Richters Herb Growing Infobase", type in the name of the herb you are interested in and this will give you lots more help with growing conditions required for the plant. If you plan to keep the plants indoors, you should consult the Magazine Rack article on indoor herb growing by Conrad Richter.
