Cinnamon Yam Harvest

I have a few questions about the cinnamon yam that you may be able to answer. Is it something that one could grow and get tubers the first year or is it the kind of plant that wants a few years in the ground before it produces tubers? Also, if you dig the tuber do you still have plant material for next year?

In a favourable climate with a long growing season and good rich soil, you will probably get a big enough tuber after one growing season to have a tuber big enough to make it worthwhile to dig it up and cook it. However unless the plant is strong enough to produce little tubers in the leaf axils you won’t have anything to replant -unless you order the little tubers from us again!.. So wait with the harvest until you get little leaf axil tubers. After checking on the size of one tuber the first fall, you should get a good idea how well they are doing under your conditions. Remember that they only overwinter in as low a zone as zone 5 or warmer.
