Herbs For Window Boxes in Half Shade Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Beverley Joseph Posted on: June 11, 2005
I want to grow some herbs in two window boxes, but they only get the sun for a couple of hours a day. Could you please tell me which herbs I should try to grow?
I presume you wish to grow culinary herbs, since this is what most people start their herb growing adventures with. Do remember that plants grown in containers will experience winters at their roots as if it were two zones colder and may not survive even if rated as winter hardy in your area.
Many herbs will do fine with two hours of sun, but the odd one may actually prefer it.
Mints would do well as long as you water them well. Parsley, lovage and Vietnamese coriander are some that come to mind as doing well even if in shade.
