How do you grow tarragon from seed?

I presume you want to grow Russian tarragon, because French tarragon is a sterile mutation of Russian tarragon and can only be propagated by cuttings. (Check our web-site at www.richters.com , click on "Q&A" in the "News&Info" section and type in "tarragon" for more on this)

Russian tarragon is easy to grow from seed. It needs deep, fertile, well-drained soil and sun. Prepare the soil well and sow the seeds in a row just barely covered with soil. Cover with evergreen branches or something similar to slow drying. Never let the seed bed dry out until the plantlets are well-established.
