Sweet Woodruff and Lily-of-the-Valley for Shaded Area

Just bought a new house. A must have is sweet woodruff. I’m wondering if I can combine lily-of-the-valley in with the sweet woodruff. I have a mostly shady spot beside the house and under a flowering crab tree that I think the sweet woodruff will do really well. I have always wanted to establish a good size area for lily-of-the-valley also. Do you think these two would work ok together.

Both will thrive in shade but I think you should put some kind of barrier into the soil around the sweet woodruff or the lily-of-the-valley will smother it in time.
