Cross-pollination of Poppies Answered by: Inge Poot Question from: Don Covill Posted on: April 12, 2010
I have several beds of somniferum poppies grown from seed that has been genetically altered . Will these cross fertilize with your blue and white seed strains enough to effect the characteristics of the tastes of either of them? If so, if after replacing all my altered beds to your seed, will I need to keep a set distance between the different flavored types to keep the seed tastes distinct?
Unless you have the beds at least 500 feet (~175m) apart, they will cross-fertilize readily and since you use the seeds and not the pods, the flavour will be all mixed up.
