I want to get started growing Chinese and Medicinal Herbs. I would like to know what is good to start with and also what book you recommend to learn about these herbs. I am looking for indications, adverse reactions, dose and method and contraindications. I have some medical background and some gardening experience.

Unfortunately we do not at present have a book on Chinese medicinal herbs. Perhaps you can obtain "Herbal Emissiaries, Bringing Chinese Herbs to the West" by Steven Foster and Yue Chongxi from Amazon.com. However we have some very helpful books on medicinal herbs in general -which of course includes quite a few that came originally from Chinese medicine. To help you get started use " The Complete Guide to Herbal Medicines (Richters catalogue #B 1906), "Growing 101 Herbs That Heal" Richters catalogue # B4330, "Herbal Simpling Plain and Simple" (B5140) When you want to grow on a larger scale, you will find the books "A-Z Guide to Drug-Herb-Vitamin Interactions" (B1040). "Medicinal and Aromatic Crops" (B6222) and "Herbal Drugs & Phyto-Pharmaceuticals" (B5053), useful.
