My sister and I are longtime customers of yours and have always enjoyed your service. At the moment we find ourselves faced with a new crisis. Our father has lung cancer. I am writing to you today to request a list of any herbs or mushrooms that might be of use to us to help alleviate the symptoms. We would prefer a cure but I guess that’s impossible. I have heard of a mushroom that is purported to give some results. We are not expecting any cure, we just need to feel that we are doing something to help him. Do you have or know where I could get a Reishi Mushroom already grown since we may not even have the time to grow one?

Although I cannot recommend a cancer cure, you may be interested in information from some organizations that deal in cancer therapy: The Gerson Institute, (The Cancer Curing Society) is often recommended by herbalists. This institute specializes in healing "incurable" diseases using mostly concentrated organically grown fruit and vegetable juices. Dr. Gerson’s book "A Cancer Therapy: Results of Fifty Cases" (publisher Station Hill Press) was first published in 1958. You can contact the Gerson Institute by: email: info@gerson.org Phone: 619-585-7600; web: http://www.gerson.org. They can send you information on their program and may have a support group in your area.

Hulda Regehr Clark, Ph.D., N.D., in "The Cure for all Diseases" (publisher New Century Press) claims that cancer is caused by a parasite, and offers methods for killing the parasite and preventing its reentry. Her herbal parasite program includes Black Walnut Hull, Wormwood and Cloves.

There are many other organizations that claim to have had successful results with cancer. Most of them involve a diet free of toxins and high in anti-oxidants, and include exercise and spiritual and emotional support in their programs. Thomas Bartram, in "Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" (Grace Publishers, Mulberry Court, Stour Road, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 1PS, England) states that higher levels of fitness are associated with lower death rates. A healthy attitude towards life has a positive effect in supporting healing and a patient’s involvement in improving his own health is an important factor.

Organic fruit and vegetables are free of toxins and high in anti-oxidants.

Anti-oxidant herbs include: Peppermint, which also helps the digestive system to absorb nutrients; Milk Thistle, effective in supporting the liver to eliminate toxins; Burdock root, supports the liver and lymphatic glands to eliminate toxins and has been reported as having anti-tumor properties; Green Tea, which studies show has anti-cancer properties effective in lung disease.

Susun Weed, in "Breast Cancer? Breast Health!" (Ash Tree Publishing) states that wild and exotic mushrooms such as puffballs, reishi, oyster mushrooms, shiitake, straw mushrooms, maitake, Zhu ling, polyporacea, chaga, enokidake and tree ears "have been shown to enhance immune functioning, deactivate viruses, prevent the promotion and initiation of many cancers, slow tumor growth and increase lifespan." You may find some of these mushrooms at a Chinese or Health Food store.
